This is our favorite beach in Corsica. Algagiola beach is beautiful, fairly small with rocks at both ends and not too crowded, supposedly because it has a bit of a breeze which makes it "cooler". However, since the temperature was around 100, we are fans of the breeze (and the umbrella!). Jay also loves to snorkel here, he counted about 17 different kinds of fish!

I get very excited about certain fruits and vegetables which are cheap and local (although luxuries here in Seattle!). Especially, the red pepper!
The Balagne region has lots of tiny mountain villages above the coast. This is a great place to get away from tourists and drive some very exciting roads! This is the village of Zilia.
Zilia is well known on the island for its water, which is bottled and sold everywhere on the island. However, if you go to the spring you can get it yourself for free! Corsica has springs like this next to the road all over the place.

You can't drive in the village, but you can walk up to the top of the hill for the great view!
And, San Antonino is home to the Cave Antonino winery, where they have fresh squeezed lemonade, their wine, and a fabulous concoction of fresh squeezed lemonade mixed with white wine which is just about the most amazing thing ever (and I've now learned how to make it!)
One day while Jay was doing finishing lab work with the students, I went on a hike to the Bocca di Melza. The trail leaves from Piriu and goes up the valley to this pass where you can see all the way down to the Gulf of Porto. Also, I traded in the familiar PB&H sandwich for baguette with brie, peanut butter not being available. :-)
Wild cows are everywhere in Corsica, although she has a bell, so she might be less wild than most!
Before they left, we took some of the students to Porto, which involves a VERY windy road, but you can swim when you get there, and eat amazing pizza so it's worth it.
Jay contemplates owning a sailboat someday. :-)

Tough life you have there! That looks like a lot of fun. Especially the beach and pool photos! I am so glad you got to go too. Better than rainy no summer fairbanks! When does school start for you guys? Looks as if your fun is almost over for the year!
